Gemius decided to find out which online shops are visited most often by internet users in Romania. The analysis covered data from September 2015.

Popular international shops in the lead

Over 5,3 million of Romanian internet users visit e-shops (61.8 per cent reach). First place went to the Alibaba Group (over 28 per cent reach among Romanian internet users). Both, Aliexpress.com and Alibaba com, are online shops which belong to the Chinese Alibaba Group, serving clients from all over the world and offering many products in different categories.

The next shop was Emag.ro (over 28 per cent reach), a shop with a wide range of electronic products.

In terms of international shopping platforms, Amazon was also present in the ranking (6,1 per cent reach).

Romanian online shops also popular

Domestic shopping websites also appeared in the top 10 ranking of online shops. All of them offer a range of products in various categories. These included the websites Okazii.ro (14 per cent reach), Cel.ro (10.7 per cent reach), Altex.ro (10.5 per cent reach), Elefant.ro (8.5 per cent reach), Dedeman.ro (7.8 per cent reach), Flanco.ro (5.7 per cent reach) and Evomag.ro (5.2 per cent reach).

About the research

The data comes from gemiusAudience, an international research project conducted by Gemius in around 30 countries in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. It aims to determine the number and demographic profile of internet users and to learn about the ways in which they use the internet: websites, audio and video material, or applications. The research is carried out in compliance with the international code of conduct ICC/ESOMAR.
