Who are Ukrainian internet audience?
In Ukraine, the distribution of men and women among the internet users is nearly equal, but it is men that spend more time on the web. A quarter of the country’s internet population are less than 30 years old. The predominant group in terms of education level are those holding some kind of degrees – the most recent Gemius analysis shows.
Ukraine gained its independence more than twenty years go. Since then, the country has been building a new democratic reality of economy and politics. Late October 2014 saw a parliamentary election, which drew the attention of international public. There were many articles on this issue on the internet, and the online audience would comment the subject on websites and fora, also outside Ukraine itself. Gemius, based on data from September 2014, has decided to check who are the Ukrainian internet users between the ages 18 and 69.
Men surf longer
The analysed data shows that the Ukrainian internet population count is 16.7 m. Half of them are women (8.34 m), but men spend more time a month browsing the web (on average 37 hrs 36 min) than female users (on average 32 hrs 52 min).
Majority of internet users are younger than 30
The analysis has also demonstrated that the young are the most eager online audience – four in ten users are between 18 and 29 years old (6.32 m). Slightly over a quarter of the internet population are between 30 and 39 years old (4.5 m), and a sixth – 40 and 49 years old (3 m). Over one tenth fall in the age group between 50 and 59 (1.98 m). The smallest group is composed of 60 o 69 year olds (0.89 m).
Highest educated stay online the longest
The analysis of time spent by internet users surfing the web shows that the higher the level of education as declared by online population members, the more time they devote to the internet. Among all internet users in Ukraine, four in ten persons hold a degree (7.04 m) and go online within a month for 41 hrs 54 min on average. Individuals who have not completed their secondary education (1.43 m) use the internet for 40 hrs 14 min a month on average, and internet users declaring basic vocational education (5.64 m) surf the web on average for 30 hrs 2 min a month. One in tenth user is a secondary school graduate (1.92 m). Individuals in this group spend in a month on average 26 hrs and 43 min. Least numerous are internet users who don’t have this level of education (0.67 m). The same group also spend the least amount of time online – 22 hrs 39 min on average per month.
The data quoted originates from an international project (gemiusAudience) conducted by Gemius in more than 30 countries. It aims to research into the number and demographic profile of internet users and the manner in which they utilize the web. The study is performed according to Gemius proprietary hybrid methodology and in accordance with the ICC/ESOMAR international code of conduct.
