Romania: telecoms' websites visited by almost a third of internet users

In June 2017, websites owned by telecommunications companies had 277,000 more visitors than in January. The most commonly visited website during the first half of the year was Orange.ro.
Stable reach
In the first half of 2017, the websites of Romania’s telecommunications companies brought almost 2 million people in front of computer screens on a monthly basis, which constitutes around 28.9 percent of the country's internet users. The months when the telecommunications websites were visited by the biggest numbers of internet users were June (2.19 million people, reach of 31.6 percent) and April (1.99 million people, reach of 28.7 percent). The smallest numbers of visitors were recorded in January (1.91 million people, reach of 28.1 percent), and March (1.92 million people, reach of 28.2 percent) (source: gemiusAudience).
The top five hold strong
The leading websites from the telecommunications industry in terms of reach in January 2017 were Rcs-rds.ro (12.7 percent), Orange.ro (10.4 percent), Telekom.ro (9.4 percent), Vodafone.ro (8.7 percent), and Upc.ro (2.7 percent). At the end of the first half of the year, the top five companies were still in the lead but the ranks in the table changed. Orange.ro, with the reach of 16.6 percent, carried the day. The subsequent ranks were taken by Res-rds.ro (12.1 percent), Vodafone.ro (8.3 percent), Telekom.ro (6.7 percent), and Upc.ro (1.8 percent).
Typical user
Among the people using the telecommunications websites in June 2017, almost two-thirds (59.6 per cent) were men. Over half of the visitors live in big cities (53.2 per cent), and over a -third (35.6 per cent) hold a higher education degree. A vast majority (68.1 per cent) have a permanent job.
