Another Lithuanian website joins the one million internet users club
July brought a historic moment for the online audience measurement in Lithuania. For the first time there were two websites visited by more than a million of PC users. It was 15min.lt, the second biggest Lithuanian news portal that got a reason to celebrate. It was visited by 1 004 613 PC internet users, which makes up 54 per cent of country’s internet population.
“A million! We are very happy that such a great deal of Lithuanians trust 15min.lt. For six years our team was putting a lot of effort and purposeful work in order for 15min.lt to become one of the biggest news sources in Lithuania. This number is symbolic. Although it took a lot of time to reach it, we promise to keep going and put even more energy, creativity and hard work, so our readers receive objective news quickly, comfortably and live on a screen of their computer, phone or tablet“ – says Tomas Balžekas, CEO of 15min.
July’s results show that 15min.lt attracts young audience: 23 per cent visitors are between 15 and 24, while 21 per cent are in the age group of 25-34. It has slightly more male visitors (49 per cent) compared to the country’s average (48 per cent). The portal was also visited by 395 455 smartphone users and 156 010 tablet users.
Lithuania and the whole world followed the events of global significance. This led to the fact that 15min.lt news portal crossed the one million internet users threshold for the first time and the Latvian gemiusAudience project got a new leader. On the other hand, in July there was a number of big entertainment events in Lithuania, including local celebrity weddings, which are always interesting for certain social groups.
In Lithuania, where almost 1.9 million people (74 per cent of country’s population aged 7-74) can be reached online, the biggest website is a news portal delfi.lt, which was visited by 1 164 114 PC users, 423 000 phone users and 173 670 tablet users (July data). Delfi.lt was the first Lithuanian website that reached a million Internet users (in September of 2007).
Gryta Balserytė, regional manager for both Lithuanian and Latvian branches of Gemius and industry expert, explains that July was an eventful month and that brought bigger audiences to websites not only in Lithuania: “Lithuania and the whole world followed the events of global significance. This led to the fact that 15min.lt news portal crossed the one million internet users threshold for the first time and the Latvian gemiusAudience project got a new leader. On the other hand, in July there was a number of big entertainment events in Lithuania, including local celebrity weddings, which are always interesting for certain social groups.”
The first results of internet study measurement (gemiusAudience) to Lithuanian market were presented in February 2005. Since then, the research has expanded: audio and video websites content measurement), as well as the mobile devices usage measurement have been implemented.
