Gemius SA to research the Israeli Internet market

2008-01-14

The Polish research firm Gemius that is currently developing its business activity on fifteen foreign markets won a tender for measuring traffic on web sites and the use of Internet applications in Israel. In cooperation with the Israeli partners Erez Bahat & Market Watch Institute from now on Gemius will be conducting its gemiusAudience research study.

In the tender organized by the Association of Advertising Agencies and the largest Israeli publishers took part four companies: comScore Inc., TNS, Nielsen/Netratings and Gemius. The last two of them got qualified into the second stage of the competition, eliminating at the same time from the battlefield the hitherto data provider, TNS. On the 25th of December 2007 the committee took the decision that Gemius is the winner of the tender.

„A reason to be especially proud of is the fact that the committee’s members appreciated the uniqueness of methodology that Gemius uses in its research studies. This is particularly important while being confronted with such widely recognized research agencies as comScore, TNS or Nielsen” says Filip Pieczyński, the manager of the International Operations Department at Gemius. The main aim of Gemius on the Israeli market is increasing the reliability of data on the Internet that so far has been generated through the method of telephone and Internet surveys concerning the opinions on web sites visited by respondents.

The gemiusAudience research study that has been just introduced onto the Israeli market will be based on two types of measurement: user-centric and site-centric. The user-centric measurement will make it possible to gain information on the trends concerning the use of web sites, online services and applications by Internet users. In order to ensure this there will be selected a representative group of approximately 25 thousand panelists, that is Internet users who will have decided to take part in the research. The second source of information will be the site-centric type of research, which provides information on traffic generated on the researched web sites.

The Israeli Internet market, where companies such as Google, Microsoft or Intel have been running their business activity, is developing rapidly and dynamically. „In December 2007 the estimated number of Internet users (over 13 years of age) amounted to 4 million, which constitutes about 55% of the country’s total population” says Erez Bahat, the president of the company Bahat LTD. He underlines also that “What is worth underlining is the fact that spendings on online advertising amounted to 80 million dollars in the last year, which represents 10% of total ad spend.”

The Gemius company was established in Poland in 1999. Over the last 8 years Gemius has been developing its activity in many European countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Hungary, and Great Britain). At the very moment of winning the tender in Israel Gemius expanded beyond the Old Continent. By the same means the company has achieved one of the chief goals of its foreign policy set last year.
