romir/gemiusAudience: the first results

2007-11-30

Gemius has released the first data from its global project of Russian Internet audience measurement, conducted in partnership with Romir Monitoring. The research results for October contain data for 50 web sites, as well as the main indicators and socio-demographic characteristics of their users.

The total reach, in October, was 18.7% for the whole Runet audience - which is equal to 4.27 million visitors (real users) who made over 100 million page views and spent 2.7 million hours on these sites - in total.

With romir/gemiusAudience, it is possible to identify the most popular web sites for men and women. In October, men’s interests were directly connected with computers (especially games), cars and TV and telecommunications. It is worth mentioning that the audience of the online project GameMag - which makes games and all the reviews related to them - is almost 100% male.

Women, in October, were more interested in practical information. They constituted the main audience of economic and law web sites, as well as public relations and media-business web sites. Nevertheless, they also paid a lot of attention to fashion and gossip sites.

romir/gemiusAudience reaches all of the regions of Russia. In October, geographic distribution was as follows:

  • Moscow – 1 868 275 visitors (real users)
  • Saint-Petersburg – 562 579 visitors (real users)
  • Novosibirsk – 112 802 visitors (real users)
  • Other cities with over 1 million people – 513 894 visitors (real users)
  • Other regions – 1 189 115 visitors (real users)

People who connect from other regions spend slightly less time and make fewer page views on these web sites than those who connect from Moscow and Saint-Petersburg. This can be explained by the availability of Internet access and by the content of the web sites which are tailored to big city needs. On the other hand, data for Novosibirsk is represented mostly by one large local web site, cn.ru, whose visitors’ loyalty is very high, as these users, on average, make almost 200 page views per person.
