Gemius report: ChatGPT on top

ChatGPT is a web application provided by OpenAI, which is based on artificial intelligence. It is free to use on the company's website, openai.com, after registration. The main purpose of ChatGPT is to answer questions asked by users, provide information or help in solving problems (e.g. content creation, idea generation, programming and technical support, etc.).

Gemius, together with PSMM, prepared a report that compares the traffic on the OpenAI website and the intensity of media hype around ChatGPT: "ChatGPT in the media 27.12.22-30.04.23". Download the PL language version of the report here.

ChatGPT popularity among Polish Internet users

We analyzed the visits of Polish Internet users on the openai.com company website as a place of access to ChatGPT, using the Mediapanel study. The first data appeared in the Mediapanel study on December 28, and since then we have been observing a steady upward trend. The last days of December 2022 attracted a total of 155,000. users, in January 2023 the number of users reached 1 million, in February and March it oscillated around 2 million, and in April it reached nearly 3 million. The reach of the service was also systematically growing, reaching 9.61% in April 2023. The longest time spent using the website was in April (34 minutes 48 seconds). So far, the largest number of visits to the OpenAI.com website occurred on March 30. On that day, 550,000 people used it. Polish internet users.

Who uses ChatGPT?

We divided the users of openai.com in April this year into two age groups: 7-39 years and 40-75 years. In the first of these groups, the Affinity Index, showing interest in the website, reached the value of (100) for women, which means that the share of women of this age in the structure of website users is identical to that in the population of Internet users. In turn, for men aged 7-39, the indicator was already 173, which means a strong overrepresentation of such people in the structure of users. However, it was younger women who spent more time on the site - an average of 44 minutes and 22 seconds, while younger men - 29 minutes 45 seconds.

People aged 40-75 were not so interested in this tool - the Affinity Index was 43 for women and 90 for men, so the share of both groups in the structure of users is much lower than it results from the structure of Polish Internet users. Men in this age group also spent more time interacting with ChatGPT - an average of 37 minutes and 30 seconds, while women averaged 28 minutes 15 seconds.

About Mediapanel Research

Mediapanel is the first cross-media study in Poland based on a single source. The study combines site-centric measurement (measurement scripts at the site and application level) and user-centric measurement (panelists' behavior). In the production of data, we use proprietary, internationally recognized methodologies and algorithms. The Mediapanel study provides a complete and reliable picture of the Polish online market. It offers the possibility of analyzing and comparing the viewership of websites, applications and streaming materials on various types of devices, optimization of advertising budgets, comparison of traffic on desktops and laptops at home (PC-home) and at work (PC-work), as well as determining the position of the entity and its competition.
